Mentoring Info
At Progressions we take people from stress to success through one-to-one mentoring.
What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is a regular meeting between the mentor and the individual. This can be carried out via telephone or face to face, and is supported and followed up via email when required.
A mentor offers a larger vision, inspiration, expanded possibilities, a sounding board and objective criticism to facilitate effective action in personal and work situations. The mentor brings their own experience, insight and knowledge while allowing you to develop the confidence to set your own goals and practices.
Who is it for?
Individuals who want to enjoy life and to excel! And for employees, especially middle and front line managers.
Mentoring improves communication skills, ensures knowledge and enthusiasm from in-house training and professional seminars becomes a habit, not a nine-day wonder. Stress is reduced by teaching and encouraging effective time management and appropriate focus on the required tasks. Managers will be equipped to focus on the outcomes required by their executive, and will be more effective in leading and mentoring staff.
To be effective the individual must agree to be mentored, they need to see this as a positive contribution to their development.
Mentoring is most effective when it extends over sufficient time to ensure genuine and lasting development of the individual – we recommend at least six and preferably twelve months of ongoing mentoring with at least one meeting per month.
Compared to in-house mentoring, which is an excellent practice, external mentors are seen as independent and therefore the individual feels free to express views, challenges, self doubts and personal needs more freely than they are likely to do with a colleague as mentor.
